Theresa R. (Violette) Masse

Theresa R. (Violette) Masse, 93, of Plainville, wife of the late Nelson Masse, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 24, 2021. 

Born in Van Buren, Maine on September 23, 1927, she was one of seventeen children to the late Severin and Caroline (Cyr) Violette.  She and Nelson moved from Maine to Hartford where they raised their eight children, and Theresa resided in Plainville for the past 30 years.  A pillar of strength, Theresa had a nurturing, non-judgmental spirit.  She was an ever-present and devoted mother and grandmother who centered her life around her family, offering priceless advice and care packages with each visit.  A retiree of Aetna, she could be found many days tending to her vast vegetable garden and canning the crops that she proudly grew alongside her children and grandchildren.  She was also a talented seamstress, who enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles; and like her parents and grandparents, was musically inclined, providing hours of entertainment with her juice harp and harmonica.  A devout catholic, she was a longtime member and volunteer at Our Lady of Mercy.  Remembered for her faith, fortitude, quick wit, and admirable values, she will be missed beyond words, leaving many memories for her family to hold dear.

 She leaves her adored children, Ivan Masse, Velma Masse (Al Murelli), Linda Masse, Rose Castro (Ted Dworak), Carol Masse, Joyce Degros, and Gregory Masse (Kathy); her grandchildren, Donna, Dawn, Jennifer, Jay, Tara, Teena, and James; great-grandchildren Morgan, Taylor, Amanda, Ashley, Victor, Giovanni, Jade, Evan, Natalia, and Trystan; her last surviving sister, Stella Duplessis; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen (Masse) Pelegrino, and her siblings, Corinne Martin, Gladys Dionne, Jeanne Levesque, Isabelle Beaupre, Gertrude Cote, Yvonne Masse, Annie Fongemie, Jeannette, George, Emil, Marc, Joseph, Abel, Richard and Percy Violette.

In lieu of flowers, Theresa’s dedication to her church may be remembered with contributions to Our Lady of Mercy, 19 S. Canal St, Plainville, CT 06062.
