Rosalie Sastre, 96, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2021 at Apple Rehab of Farmington Valley in Plainville. She is now reunited with her loving husband, Joseph Sastre, and many relatives that have gone on before her.
Rosalie was born on February 2, 1925, in Meriden, CT daughter to the late Joseph and Marguerite Tella. She grew up in Meriden, attended Meriden schools and graduated from Meriden High School. Rosalie and her husband, Joseph, settled in Plainville where they raised their family shortly after their marriage. Rosalie was a homebody and found her niche in taking care of their home. She loved to bake, cook, and was a supreme house cleaner. Rosalie was the true matriarch of her family, always taking care of her family and bringing everyone together. She established a special relationship with her grandson, David, as she watched over him and became his caretaker. She had previously worked in the cafeteria at Plainville High School for many years, where she was able to continue her knack for cooking. Rosalie was a faithful Catholic and a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church for many years. She was also a former member of the Catholic Daughters. A life well lived, Rosalie will be missed dearly by her family as they cherish the memories they shared together over her many blessed years of life.
Rosalie is survived by her daughters, Peggy Romine and her husband, Harold, of Plainville and Linda Spendolini and her husband, Jack, of Berlin; her daughter-in-law, Janice Sastre, of S. Carolina; her grandchildren, Christopher Romine and his wife, Karen, of New York, David Romine, of Plainville, Jessica Brown and her husband, Robert, of Berlin, Scott Spendolini, of Texas, Brian Spendolini, of Hawaii, Thomas Stewart and his wife, Amanda, of Berlin, and Keith and Ian Mitchell, of S. Carolina; and her great-grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Reagan and Morgan Stewart. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Thomas Sastre and all of her siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 12 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad St., Plainville. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the church prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 AM. Burial with a committal service will be held following the Mass in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Plainville.
