Richard Maura Obituary

 

Richard F. Maura, 78, of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Plainville, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Born October 11, 1942 in Hartford, Connecticut, he came to the area eight years ago from Plainville, Connecticut. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Intrepid.  He was an avid golfer and member and former president of the Stanley Men’s Club in New Britain, CT for more than 50 years. He looked forward to his annual Pennsylvania golf trips with his friends. He was a life member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks, #957, where he leaves many friends. In recent years he became involved with the Wounded Warriors Project, and was a parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Remembered for his kindheartedness and love for his family, he will be dearly missed.

 He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Susan M. Maura; brother: John Maura; and sister: Linda Maura.  He is survived by his wife: Palmira C, Maura; daughter and son-in-law: Susan & Robert Fantoli of Southington, CT; stepdaughter and son-in-law: Elaine & Shawn Riley of Chicopee, MA; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ted & Magda Maura and Chester & Shelly Maura, all of Middletown, CT; sisters: MaryAnn Shampang of Durham, CT, Catherine Maura of West Palm Beach, FL;  and four grandchildren: Kaylee Fantoli, Robert Fantoli, Amber Harrison, and Kayla Harrison.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church.  Committal services with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.  Family and friends may gather prior to the Mass from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
