Matthew “Matt” William LaBarre Jr.

Matthew “Matt” W. LaBarre Jr., 59 years young, of Plainville passed away unexpectedly in the comfort of his home on Sunday, October 17, 2021.
Matt was born on January 17, 1962 in New Britain, CT son to the late Matthew W. LaBarre Sr. and Pamela (Zigmund) LaBarre. A popular, and life-long resident of Plainville, Matt served as a Plainville Police Officer, retiring after 21 dedicated years of service.  After retirement he became a devoted member of the Elks Lodge 957, New Britain, where he served in several roles including Exalted Ruler from 2013 to 2014.  He was an avid sports enthusiast and was a passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox, NY Giants, and Rusty Wallace.  Matt was a competitive athlete as a child and adult, and had a profound love for baseball and golf. Never without a sarcastic comment and a great smile, there was no shortage of laughter when Matt was present. A movie and music fanatic, he would often quote lines, verbatim, from movies or burst out a song. He lived in the moment, and will be missed immensely by his family and large circle of friends and acquaintances. 
Matt’s greatest accomplishments were his three baby girls. Surviving their father are, Stephanie Simard and her husband, Cameron, of Plainville, Melissa Gill and her husband, Justin, of Plainville, and Emily LaBarre and her significant other, Josh Pelletier, of Plainville; his grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Simard, and Gia and Mason Gill; and his sister, Tammy Selander. He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Peggy Marut, and several extended family members, including many cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Denise A. LaBarre.
Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., Plainville on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 12 to 4 PM. A prayer service in celebration of Matt’s life will be held at 4 PM at the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Elks Lodge 957, 30 Washington St., New Britain. In memory of Matt, donations can be made to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.
