Marisol Morales Obituary

On May 28, 2021, after an arduous battle with cancer, Marisol, “Mari”, journeyed to be with her beloved Lord and Savior. In the months before her passing, she valiantly fought through the many peaks and valleys of her illness, never giving up or giving in to despair. Through her last breath, Marisol clung to her abundantly lived life, love for Jesus Christ, and treasured family and friends.

Marisol was born on October 29, 1970, in New Britain, CT to Demetrio Morales and Flor Maria (Gonzales) Morales. Bursting into the world on a fortuitous Leap Year, Marisol’s vivacious personality and zest for life was evident from birth. Her infectious smile, playful nature, and boundless love would define her for the rest of her days.

Marisol’s profound empathy for others, especially those who were suffering, led her to a career in social work. For 23 years at the Department of Social Services, Marisol helped countless clients preserve their dignity, independence, and self-worth. She lived by the golden rule; always treating others like she wanted to be treated, yet never keeping score. Marisol began and ended every interaction with a smile, understanding that her smile might be the best thing to happen to her clients or coworkers that day. She knew that life was too precious to sweat the small stuff.

Not only did Marisol open her heart to her clients and coworkers, but she also opened her home to friends, family and acquaintances that needed a safe harbor in the worst of storms. Always sharing her hope in Christ Jesus and loving unconditionally. Whether after a full day of helping clients, or fending off the exhaustion of chemotherapy, Marisol never hesitated to welcome anyone who emerged at her door. On any given night Marisol could be found around the table laughing with her guests. Marisol’s house became a refuge, a “home away from home”, where people could expect genuine friendship, a warm hug, and a generous meal. She had an uncanny ability to know what those around her needed exactly when they needed it.

Marisol was undeniably a woman of her word. She kept her promises. Even when her illness made it hard to get up out of bed. She found a way, through sheer willpower and faith in God, to muster the strength to be there for others, even driving to New York City to attend her niece’s birthday party, just because she promised she would. Marisol’s tenacity, dedication to others, and selflessness deeply touched all of those that were blessed enough to know her.

Marisol is survived by her husband, Jose Gracia; her sons, Jeffrey (his partner Jezenia), Cristian and Eric Narvaez; her parents, Demetrio Morales and Flor Maria (Gonzales) Morales; her sisters, Flor L. Morales and Ana Morales; her brother, Severo Anaya; her stepchildren, Jose Gracia Jr., Erika Gracia, Jasmine Gracia, Joselito Gracia, Samuelito Gracia; her grandchildren, Janielis Narvaez, Giovanni Narvaez, and Dominic Narvaez. Marisol was predeceased by her brother, Demetrio Morales III in 2006.
