Lois M. (Sanford) Nilson, 86, of Bristol, formerly of Plainville, beloved wife of Dwight Nilson, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022. A woman of strong faith and devotion to the Lord, she was at peace with meeting Jesus.
Born in Plainville on August 29, 1935, she was one of three children to the late Weston and Frances (Schwab) Sanford. She was a devoted member of the Plainville United Methodist Church, where she was well-liked Sunday School and a dedicated volunteer and supporter of countless committees and fundraising efforts. Additionally, she ran her own neighborhood vacation Bible school at her home in the summers. She and Dwight shared 66 wonderful years of marriage, raised five children and enjoyed many memorable road trips throughout the U.S. They made annual visits to York Beach, Maine which held a special place in their hearts, and fulfilled Lois’ interest in history with frequents trips to Gettysburg. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be missed dearly and remembered fondly for her kind heart, generosity and love for her family.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Debora (Jim) Hugo, Nancy (Chris) Sylvester, Kenneth (Barbara) Nilson, John (Anita) Nilson, and Randy (Kelly) Nilson; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Weston and Bob Sanford.
Lois gave generously to many organizations, and may be remembered with contributions to the Plainville Community Food Pantry, PO Box 233, Plainville CT 06062 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
