John Clifton Jenkins, 67, of Terryville, loving husband of Bonnie-Marie Doughty-Jenkins, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Bristol Hospital.
Born in Huntington, West Virginia on October 13, 1952, he was the son of the late Thomas and Clara Vaughn (Browning) Jenkins. He attended local schools, moved to Oklahoma City and finally settled in Connecticut. John spent the majority of his career with the Connecticut Department of Corrections, retiring as a supervisor from Newtown in 2017 after 20 years of dedicated service at various state facilities. He and Bonnie-Marie shared 19 years of love, life adventures, and travels, having a special affinity for Bermuda, cruises, and annual trips to Winter Fest in Newport. John was an accomplished acoustic guitar player and proud band member of “The Silhouettes” in his younger years, finding great joy in being surrounded by and strumming songs for “his girls” as he became a much-loved Grandpa John. He enjoyed the serenity of fishing the local lakes, ponds and rivers, and was a member of the Terryville Fish and Game Club and the Southington Elks Lodge No. 1669. Remembered for his strength, love and simplicity, he will be greatly missed by the many lives he touched.
In addition to his wife, Bonnie-Marie, he leaves his son, Jason Jenkins, his daughter-in-law, Abbey Crook; his adored granddaughters, Kayla, Alana, and Madelyn; his sister, Amanda Church, his mother and father-in-law, Dennis and Patricia Doughty; and many cousins and extended family in Virginia and West Virginia. He was predeceased by his only niece, Cercre Spence.
John may be remembered with contributions to the Plymouth Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 191 Main St, Terryville, CT 06786, in appreciation for their unwavering support.
Family and friends may gather in celebration of John’s life on Tuesday, from 5-7 p.m. at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St. Plainville. Words of remembrance will be shared at 7 p.m.
