Joan Kulak Obituary

Joan Madeleine (Lavoie) Kulak, 90, of Plainville passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Henry Kulak, who predeceased her in 2001. Together they shared 45 years of pure happiness and endless love.

Joan was born on September 24, 1933 in Grand Isle, Maine daughter to the late Levite and Rose (Dionne) Lavoie. She was raised in Maine and passionate to find employment, she left home at the age of 17 and moved to Connecticut embarking on a career in Hartford. She married the love of her life, Henry Kulak, on January 14, 1956 at the age of 22 and shortly after they were blessed with their daughters. Joan worked for numerous factories until the birth of her children when her full attention and commitment was being a mother. As they grew older, she returned back to work and retired after many dedicated years.

Her unwavering dedication to her community was exemplified through her years of volunteering as a poll worker during presidential elections, ensuring fair and democratic processes. Beyond her commitment to civic duty, Joan had a zest for life and a love for exploration. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel far and wide, creating beautiful memories and stories to be treasured for generations to come. Her compassion extended not only to her fellow humans but also to the animals she adored, particularly the feline companions that brought her so much joy over the years. Her selflessness and kindness touched the lives of many, and her generosity knew no bounds. She was a beautiful person inside and out, filled with grace, elegance, and a heart of pure gold. Joan touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Above all, Joan loved her family immensely. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Karen Fiori, of New Britain, Patricia Albert and her husband, David, of Plainville, and Linda Kulak, of Plainville; her grandchildren, Christine Vincek and her husband, Jim, of Tolland, Michael Fiori and his wife, Malgorzata, of Chesapeake, VA, Kevin Fiori and his wife, Lauren, of Cheshire, Matthew Albert and his wife, Ingrid, of Mound, MN, and Christopher Albert, of Plainville; her eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Laurette and her husband, Fern, Charlene, and Therese; and her brother-in-law, Rock. In addition to her husband, Henry Kulak, she was predeceased by her son-in-law, David Fiori; her brothers, Alcide (Therese) and Walter; her sisters, Patricia and Dorella (Adelin, Ola); her brothers-in-law, Clement and Gilles; and her special aunt, Blanche Lavoie.
