Fabien J. Castonguay, 85 of Plainville, CT passed away peacefully September 21, 2021. He was born November 1935 in Limestone, ME, son of the late Lazare Castonguay and Lena (Caron) Castonguay. He was raised in Caribou, ME where he attended school. He moved to CT in 1956 where he met and married his wife of 63 years Bernice (Levesque) Castonguay. He served in the US Army from 1958 – 1960. He worked as an Ironworker with Local 15 retiring after 30 years. He continued working in various full and part time positions until he reached the age of 80. He and his wife spent the winters of the last 20 years in Davenport, FL.
He was a member of the Bristol Council of the Knights of Columbus, Franco American Veterans, Ironworkers Local 15 Retirees and served on the Plainville Planning and Zoning Commission and Democratic Town Committee.
Besides his wife Fabien leaves behind his five children Karen Asteriades (Bill), Donna Prella (Randy), Phyllis Castonguay, Cheryl Castonguay and Dennis Castonguay (partner Phitsamay Sourinho). He also leaves five grandchildren Julie McGovern (Sean), Amy Asteriades (Dan Frawley), Brian Prella (Alexandra), Kevin and Travis Currey along with four great grandchildren Liam and Colin Frawley and Madelyn and Chloe McGovern. He also leaves behind his sister Yvette Payne of TX and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by five brothers Philip, Sylvio, Hubert, Vincent and Leon along with two sisters Rita Yee and Irma Wojtusik.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, September 30 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94 Broad Street, Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Burial with full military honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fabien can be made to the Plainville Community Food Pantry, 54 S Canal St, Plainville, CT 06062.
