Chance Mack Obituary

Chance Chapman Mack, 36, passed away Saturday January 1, 2022. Chance was the only son of late, Janice Denise Mack and the grandson of the late Mary Emma Barnett. Chance had a big heart and was deliberate about bringing joy and laughter into the room.  He had an enormous capacity to love and to make everyone around him feel loved.  Chance was known for his playful spirit, his sinister laugh, and his infectious smile. Chance Chapman grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School.

Chance had many talents.  He was an incredible artist and critical thinker.  At a very young age he was intrigued by traffic, he would watch and study the traffic, and would often be at risk of getting himself in the middle of traffic. He later graduated to map making, he knew how to get everywhere and would draw maps for hours.  Chance was also a talented musician, playing an array of West African Drums, and later transitioning to the traditional drum set.

Chance was quietly unique and extremely funny.  The things that interested him he did over and over and over.  Chance made it his business to make people laugh. He played basketball, loved football and all things eaten required ketchup.  Chance was extremely intelligent and loved what he loved.  He was an avid 49er’s fan and loved all things 49ers.  He was an original PEPster, today known as the Queen Ann Nzinga Center, where he actively participated in the program from kindergarten through high school. He attended Redeemer’s A.M.E. Zion Church and sang in the children’s choir, was a Bud and a Youth, played drums for the Children’s, Jubilee, Senior and Mass Choirs. He was always helpful and loved helping the younger kids in church.

The rhythm and light shined by Chance Chapman will be missed by all that knew and experienced him.  Chance is survived by his three sisters, Patrice Patterson, Antoinette, and Antoniah Cummings, second Mother Dayna R. Snell, his Godmother Arlene Collins Guerrier, his best friend Kenny Broderick and a host of close family and friends. He was predeceased by his adoring mother, Janice Denise Mack, and his loving grandmother, Mary Emma Barnett.

In lieu of flowers, Chance may be remembered with contributions to the Queen Ann Nzinga Center, https://www.qanc.org/donate
