Carol Ann (Neri) Accousti, 76 of Plainville, wife of the late Francis Accousti, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 9, 2023 in Newtown. She had her son and his family, affectionately known to her as “her tribe” by her side, just as they were as she courageously fought ovarian cancer for the past year.
She was born in New Britain on June 11, 1947, daughter of the late Carlo and Josephine (Forino) Neri, and was a lifelong resident of Plainville, graduating from Plainville High School in 1965. Carol went on to earn her BS in Elementary Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and would spend her entire, impressive, 42 year career at Wheeler Elementary School, where she loved being around her students. She taught thousands of students throughout her career, with each of them having a special place in her heart, and often shared stories of her days in the classroom that would always bring a smile to her face.
Above all, Carol’s adoration for her family was unmatched, most especially for her grandchildren Lila, James, Nikolas and Joseph. She would make it her mission to attend their sporting events, graduations and every important milestone throughout their lives. Carol and her family enjoyed countless vacations together, with her favorite trips being to Disney World or relaxing in Naples Florida, and returning to her beloved home of 45 years brought her much peace and joy.
A woman of strong faith, she was a dedicated communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. Carol impacted the lives of many with her gentle heart and infectious smile. She was a devoted friend, maintaining lifelong friendships from childhood to college, to her colleagues from Wheeler School, all who became her extended family and a source of love, strength and support throughout her illness and beyond. She will be missed beyond measure and remembered fondly.
She leaves behind her son, James Accousti and wife Leslie of Newtown CT, her grandchildren who each had their own special bond with their Granny, James, Nikolas, Joseph and Lila Accousti; her sisters-in-law, Roberta Accousti of Southington and Judy Accousti of Milford; two nieces and three nephews. In lieu of flowers, Carol’s love for teaching may be remembered with contributions to the Carol Accousti Memorial Fund, c/o Frank T. Wheeler School, 15 Cleveland Memorial Dr, Plainville, CT 06062, for the purchase of school supplies. Additionally, a collection area will be available at the funeral home for supplies to be brought during the visitation.
Funeral services will be held on Friday November 17, 2023, at 9 a.m. from Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St, Plainville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may gather on Thursday evening, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
