Betty Pye Obituary

Betty Jane (Martin) Pye, 86, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022, joining her husband of 45 years, Richard S. Pye, in eternal peace.

Born in Ft. Fairfield, Maine on September 23, 1935, she was one of five children to the late Earl and Gertrude (Ireland) Martin.  Raised and educated in Maine, she and Richard moved to Connecticut shortly after their marriage in 1956, where they raised three devoted children and became proud grandparents.

Betty relished in being surrounded by her family.  She was a wonderful cook and baker, hosting family gatherings at her home where all looked forward to her famous lemon squares.  She enjoyed talking, laughing, looking at photo albums, and playing card games with her children and grandchildren.

Betty’s other favorite activities included annual trips to Delray Beach, FL, and the coast of Maine.  She always had a vegetable garden and cared for the flowers on her deck and around her yard.  She loved going to baseball games at the A. Bartlett Giamatti Little League Center in Bristol, where she volunteered at the concessions and was Dugout’s #1 Fan.  She knew everyone and had many friends among the staff and umpires who returned annually from throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Betty is survived by her son Richard, his wife Lisa, and their children Emma and Trevor Wielert, Carly and Olivia, her daughter Laura, with whom she shared the bonds of Little League, traveling and gardening, her son Steven, his wife Cindy, and their children Zachary Pye, Nicole France (Justin), Bethany Pye (Curtis Mazure), and Mackenzie, and three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Zoey, and Madison.

The last survivor of her generation, Betty was predeceased by her three brothers and one sister, and leaves many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, Betty may be remembered with donations to Little League Baseball East Region, in honor of Betty Pye, Dugout’s Mom, 335 Mix Street, Bristol, CT 06010.

Honoring Betty’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life with private services in CT and ME.  For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
