Barry Wayne Creswell, 75, of Plainville passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus surrounded by his beloved family. He was the devoted husband to Elizabeth “Betsy” (O’Neil) Creswell for 26 years, sharing many wonderful life adventures together that were full of love and laughter.
Barry was born on June 3, 1948 in Hartford, CT son to the late Luther and Ruth (Johnson) Creswell. He graduated from Bloomfield High School and worked as a butcher for many years, retiring from Noel’s Market after many dedicated years, where he established many lifelong friendships with colleagues and customers with his quick wit and expertise in preparing meats. In retirement, and not quite ready to settle down, Barry worked for Westwoods golf course where he could golf at any time he wanted! He had a passion for golf, enjoyed a good round of card games, or an occasional trip to the casino. Barry was a member of the Saint Joseph Polish Society in Forestville, a social club that allowed Barry’s bubbly personality and contagious funny sense of humor to come to life. He was a sports fanatic, especially an avid fan of the New York Yankees and he loved his Budweiser; it always had to be a Bud Heavy, don’t even dare try to give him any other beer! Barry loved to listen to the tunes of Billy Joel and enjoy life. Above all, family was the most valuable treasure to Barry, most prominently his grandchildren who always put a smile on his face. Barry will be missed tremendously by his family and leaves behind many cherished memories for them to live on his legacy with.
In addition to his wife, Betsy, Barry is survived by his daughter, Karen Kulesa (Shane Abram), of Terryville, his son, Jonathan Creswell, of Killingly, his step-daughters, Kristina Willis (David) and Rebecca Ballinger (Garrett), all of Plainville, his 7 grandchildren, Michelle Grenier, of Plainville, Alison Kulesa, of Cromwell, Jamison Kulesa, of Terryville, Jonathan Creswell and Jacqueline Joyce Creswell, both of Killingly, and Brianna and Nicholas Ballinger, both of Plainville, his sister, Pam Creswell, of Windsor, and several extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Barry was predeceased by his siblings, Ruth and Luther Creswell and his son-in-law, Carl Kulesa.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, November 9 from 5 to 7 PM at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad Street, Plainville. A prayer service and words of remembrance will be shared at 6:45 PM at the funeral home. Guests are encouraged to wear their best sports attire to the gathering, specifically Yankees gear, as Barry was a die-hard Yankees fan. Burial will be held at a later date privately.
