Barbara Jean (Jones) Sobczak, 74 of Vernon, passed away on Friday June 30, 2023. She was the wife of the late Edward Sobczak, who predeceased her in 2006.
Born on March 29, 1949, in New Britain, she was one of four children to the late Ernest and Agnes (Rickert) Jones.
Barbara was a beacon of creativity, and spirit throughout her life. A graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain, her education laid the foundation for a life filled with diverse interests and talents. She was a lover of all animals and became a certified wildlife rehabber, dedicating countless hours to the rehabilitation of animals in need. Her home was often filled with the joyous chaos of the German Shepherds she bred and raised.
Barbara's creative spirit was boundless. She was a talented artist, skilled in painting and drawing. Her unique talent for woodcarving and whittling transformed basic sticks into prayer staffs and beautiful works of art. Barbara's artistic talents extended to the stage as well. As a gifted singer, she participated in community productions in her younger years, sharing her love of music and the theater. She was delighted to become a great aunt to her nieces (Stephanie, Sloane, Iris) and nephew (Noah). They brought her endless hours of happiness.
Her family will remember her as a strong, independent, and creative spirit who enriched their lives.
She is survived by her sister, Sharon (Robert) Tevlin, and brother, Ronald (Wendy) Jones and she was predeceased by her older sister, Jacqueline (1943). Barbara was a cherished aunt to her nephews, Greg (Brianna O'Neill) Tevlin and Aaron (Christine) Jones, and nieces, Amanda (Hank) Harris and Emily (Benjamin) Merrill.
