Obituary

Carole M. Dorman, 78, of Plainville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the Hospital of Central CT New Britain General Campus surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 10, 1944, she was the cherished daughter of the late Robert H. and Rita (Meyers) Schmidt. At a young age, Carole began a successful career in banking, which lasted over 30 years. She started at American Savings as a teller and through the years transferred to various other financial institutions, including Burritt Mutual, Derby Savings, and Webster Bank where she retired as the assistant branch manager. To say she had a way with numbers is an understatement as she was highly knowledgeable and respected in all aspects of banking. Carole was an animal lover, having several types of pets through the years that she spoiled and truly loved more than people. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed watching crime shows. She had a soft spot for the states of Maine and New Hampshire, where she was able to unwind, relax, and in her own words, live free. Carole especially found joy and peace visiting lighthouses. A woman of tough-love, who was full of snarky remarks and sassiness, she will forever be remembered as her family finds solace in the reunion of Carole and her loved ones who she so longed to meet again.

Carole is survived by her son, John W. Irwin, Jr., of Waterbury; her grandson, Ryan Irwin, of Milford; her sisters, Shirley, Nancy, and Robin; her special niece, Allison Levine and her fiancé, Edwardo Rodriguez, of West Hartford; her great-niece and great-nephew, Aundrea and Aaron, of West Hartford; her adopted grandchildren, Jason, Alyssa, and Anthony; her long-time friend, Stephen Levine; and her furry companions or as one might say, her “bonus children”: her bird, Nicki and her two Cocker Spaniels, Devin and Jenna. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Rita Schmidt and her husband, Robert Dorman.

Following Carole’s wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately at some of her favorite destinations. In lieu of flowers, it is most fitting to make donations in memory of Carole to the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111 (cthumane.org) or to any organization that supports the rights and care of animals, most prominently no kill shelters. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home, 81 Broad St., extends their gratitude to Carole’s family for their trust in handling her final wishes.
